A powerful new partnership between business growth organisation Icehouse and Family Business Association aims to strengthen collaboration, networks and training for New Zealand’s family-owned businesses.
The partnership follows a successful Australian model linking Family Business Association and the Icehouse-licensed Owner Manager Programme.
Icehouse CEO Olivia Blaylock said the New Zealand partnership brought synergies that would add depth to both organisations this side of the Tasman.
“Of the 1000 or so businesses we connect with each year, roughly a third are family businesses. They are an incredibly important part of our economy, with more than 75 per cent of all New Zealand businesses being family owned. This exciting partnership will open significant new channels for collaboration for members and alumni of both organisations,” Olivia Blaylock said.
Having owned a family business for 14 years and as an Icehouse alumni, Olivia says she would have appreciated the support of FBA membership alongside the significant value offered by the Icehouse.
“The challenges faced by family businesses can be overwhelming however we know that when they are well-managed and supported, they produce incredible results.”

Christchurch-based Parks Towing and Garage, a family business marking its 100th year, is proof of this success. General Manager Stuart Gerring, an Icehouse Owner Manager Programme alumni and FBA board member has invested in leadership and finance training to strengthen his team and future-proof the business.
“I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when like-minded organisations come together to support and grow New Zealand’s business community. Both have played a key role in our journey—providing valuable insight, networks, and resources that continue to shape our family business for the better. I’m really excited to see the impact this partnership will have for other family businesses and the next generation of leaders.”
The partnership includes a scholarship for the Icehouse flagship Owner Manager Programme and is available to FBA members for 2025 intakes in July and September.
Catherine Sayer, CEO, FBA said the collaboration with Icehouse would support New Zealand businesses to succeed and thrive.
“We are delighted to collaborate with the Icehouse. We each have areas of expertise and this partnership will bring a cohesive approach to business growth.”
FBA NZ manager Nicole Pluck said the partnership will support all family businesses regardless of size.
"FBA and the Icehouse are committed to supporting business growth with a comprehensive offering that spans all industries and business sizes across New Zealand."
